Pixel Pets / Install guide

How to add a pet to Chrome

A browser pet is a small animated companion that appears on web pages while you browse. With Pixel Pets, you can choose a free Shiba, tabby cat or rubber duck. This guide covers the desktop Chrome extension; you can also try the pets online before installing anything.

1. Install Pixel Pets from the Chrome Web Store

On your computer, open the official Pixel Pets listing, choose Add to Chrome, and review the permission prompt. Choose Add extension if you want to proceed. You do not need a Pixel Pets account or a payment card to use the three free pets.

The extension needs access to web pages to draw its pet there. Its content script adds the pet container; it does not collect page text or browsing history. The privacy policy explains the separate requests used to activate and validate a paid licence.

2. Pin it and open a normal web page

Open Chrome's Extensions menu beside the address bar and pin Pixel Pets so its icon is easy to find. Open an ordinary website, such as an article you are reading. If that tab was open before installation, reload it once.

Do not test on the Chrome Web Store, the New Tab page or a chrome:// settings page: these are not places where Pixel Pets can draw. It also skips PDF documents and standalone images. Look along the bottom edge of a normal web page instead.

3. Choose your free pet

Click the Pixel Pets toolbar icon and choose the Shiba, tabby cat or rubber duck. It walks, sits and naps on its own. Click the pet to make it hop, or scroll to wake it from sleep. There is nothing to feed and no daily streak.

4. Set the size, activity and visibility

Open All settings from the toolbar popup. Pick one of five sizes and three activity levels. A calmer setting suits a reading tab; a livelier setting makes the pet move more often.

Use Hide to turn pets off everywhere. Use Off on this site to hide them on the current domain, for example during work. The pet is hidden over fullscreen content and on printouts, and its animation pauses in background tabs.

What is free, and what needs Pro?

The three starter pets, one companion on screen, all sizes, all activity levels and visibility controls are free. Pro adds the dino, ghost, fox, penguin and slime, plus up to four pets at once. It costs $1.99 once, with one active browser per licence. You can preview every Pro pet before deciding, or read the pricing and delivery details.

Can I use it on a phone, Edge, Firefox or Safari?

Chrome extensions run on desktop Chrome, not Chrome on a phone. Pixel Pets is built for Chromium browsers, including Chrome, Edge and Brave on a computer. Firefox and Safari do not currently have a Pixel Pets extension. On an unsupported browser, you can still try the web playground in its own tab.

If your work or school manages the browser, installation may be restricted by your administrator. Google's extension installation guide explains Chrome's installation and pinning controls. If you have already installed it, follow the pet-not-showing checklist.
